IRID® visors cover any tint between 64% and 20% of VLT, so you can have the perfect tint, instantly, at any time.
IRID® visors react in 0.09 seconds, providing the perfect tint in no time.
Regular photochromic visors take 40 seconds to go from clear to dark*, and full minutes to go from dark to clear again.
When riding at 60 km/h, in 3 minutes, you travel for 3 km.
IRID® visors work thanks to visible light, which is the exact same light our eyes see. So there is always a perfect match between the tint our eyes need, and IRID®’s darkness.
Regular photochromic visors are activated by UV rays. Yet, clouds stop more visible light than UVs, so when cloudy a photochromic visor will stay activated, even though our eyes see a dark environment.
Plus, the higher the altitude, the higher the UV rays are, this means that even in bad weather conditions, when in the mountains, a photochromic visor will tend to be fully activated.
IRID® visors aren’t temperature sensitive. They maintain the same characteristics at +40 or at -25.

Regular photochromic visors, instead, are temperature sensitive. Cold weather slows the reaction down, so the colder the weather is, the slower the reaction is.
Also, cold tends to keep the photochromic pigments activated, even with low visibility.
Thanks to its special anti-fog treatment, IRID®’s approval guarantees up to 120 seconds of resistance, the maximum available on the market.

The concept is the same as welding masks, but saying “liquid crystals” means a little everything and nothing, because the types are really so many.
What we have done is take a technology that already existed, but had very strong technical limitations, and with a whole series of implementations make it versatile.
These implementations are encapsulated in the 12 patents that we have filed over the years.
What we mean with versatile:
– applicable to very large and very curved surfaces (which seems like a detail, but is not)
– completely battery-free (welding masks usually use a small button one)
– with an optical clarity indistinguishable from a normal polycarbonate visor and therefore legally approved
-with a perfectly uniform tint throughout the whole visor
– with an activation curve that makes it incredible to use because it perfectly follows the needs of the eye by covering any intermediate gradation. Welding masks just go on-off.
In short, details are often what make big differences.
IRID® visors are powered by a small solar panel that sits at the top of the visor. When light hits the panel, the energy goes directly into the liquid crystal film darkening the visor. If there’s no light there’s no energy and the visor stays deactivated.
Actually, IRID® visors help a lot in these uncomfortable situations.
With a regular visor, our eyes would have to compensate for the drastic light changes, with no help.
With IRID®, the visor activates and deactivates doing a part of our eyes’ jobs.
Of course, it cannot compensate for any single change, but it does improve comfort by far.
No! IRID® is actually placed on the inside of the visor, and the outer part is as tough as a regular polycarbonate one so if you scratch it, the system will continue working without any issue.

IRID visors are calibrated to offer the perfect tint in any condition so the reflection of light on the ground is more than enough to activate them, even if your back is turned to the sun.

It is impossible for the visor to become dark in such conditions.
